I'm going out of town tomorrow ✈️ for a cat 🐈‍⬛ sitting job and this is the extent of my packing 👝 so far - my walking shoes 👟. I guess I should add some clothes 👕👖🧦

I get comments and messages from people asking me why I post about cat sitting, some have even said that it makes me look unprofessional and that boggles my mind 😵‍💫

Here's the thing: this job market sucks for a lot of people right now - especially a Gen X-er like me, so I'm doing what I can to hold onto to my home 🏡. If you see that as unprofessional, I'm guessing you have a full-time job 🤔

I don't hold on to comments like that but I know some job seekers do, so I post about cat sitting to let others know there's nothing wrong with doing something unconventional (especially if you love it) to help make ends meet. No one is in your shoes 🥿

So job seekers, find something you can do while you're looking 👀 for your next job and just do it:

° Like driving 🚗? Sign up with Lyft or offer to drive friends or neighbors to 🥼 appointments
° Like shopping 🛍? Sign up with Instacart
° Like delivering? Sign up with DoorDash to deliver food 🍔🍟
° Like dogs 🐕? Tell neighbors you'll walk their dogs while they're at work

Just start opening yourself up to opportunities. None of these will replace your full-time job's income but isn't some income better than none?

Happy Friday 🤍 For those wondering what the job search is like right now, this is a good example. A recruiter recently reached out to me about a position they're trying to fill for their client. We spoke a couple of times before an interview with the client was scheduled. In one of our conversations, I was asked if I had any travel plans coming up (which, now that I think about it, I probably shouldn't have answered). I was honest and mentioned a short trip in mid-May to Texas for a family reunion. This morning (the day of the interview), I received this email telling me my interview was canceled but if I could change my trip, the recruiter would "be happy to let my client know and see if we can get you scheduled again for an interview". Happy Friday 🚙 I picked up my rental car today. This weekend I'm driving up to Northern California for a cat sitting job 🐈‍⬛. Do I usually travel 👝 for a cat sitting job? No. The one exception I make is for family and believe it or not, this is the first of two out of town cat sitting jobs for me (the second is in March, that one requires flying to another city, I'm looking at you, Dallas 🛩).  I've commented on many posts from job seekers telling them sometimes you have to look outside of traditional jobs to make money 💲, even if it's only temporary. This is an example of that. And I feel lucky that at this weird point in my career, I can visit with family and help them out while they're away from home. Have a great weekend! I'll probably be off LinkedIn for most of the next week to enjoy some downtime.
