Image
#MerryMonday  💚 While I have a cat sitting job starting this week that goes through the beginning of January, for the most part, I will be taking the final two weeks of 2025 off to enjoy the holidays. I hope you take a little time off as well. Happy Holidays 🎄 #freelancer #FreelanceWork #FreelanceLife #WorkFromHome #RemoteWork #CatSitting #CatSitter #JobHuntingChronicles #HappyHolidays

Image
Happy Thursday 💚 This is today's view as I'm setting up my new laptop. Freelancing can have droughts, and while I have a job starting after Christmas, I'm trying to enjoy this downtime but also be productive. How's that for an oxymoron 😂 And yes, I am watching a Hallmark Christmas movie 🎄🎬 Job seekers, I know it's hard right now. I have put my job search on the back burner for the holidays. I'm not totally abandoning it, but I am not spending hours each day scanning the job boards either. It's ok to take a step back if you need (or even just want) to. Do what works for you. #freelancer #FreelanceWork #FreelanceLife #WorkFromHome #RemoteWork #JobHuntingChronicles #OfficeView

Happy Tuesday 💚  I turned down a cat sitting job today. The reason I gave was it conflicted with another job, which is true. But I could have made room if I *really* wanted to.  Here's the thing: I didn't feel the need to accommodate this potential client. She had reached out to me on another social media platform about a month ago, asked me to message her (which I did), then gave me the dates she would be out of town and asked me to text her my availability to talk (which I also did). When times weren't lining up for us to talk, she finally just asked for my fees and what was included in my sitting services. So I texted her the information she requested and pretty quickly got a "thanks for the info" text (which I know is code for I'm not paying that for someone to feed my cat", or some variation of that). I told her she was welcome and I hoped to hear from her. Of course I never did 🙄 Fast forward to today and I get a text asking me if I'm availabl...

post #23 - Take the holidays off

Image
Happy Thursday 💚 I don't know who needs to hear this, but it's ok to put your job search on hold right now. Christmas is in two weeks, 2026 is in three, take some time while you have it to enjoy the holidays. At this point in the year most companies have paused hiring (for a number of reasons) and even if they are still looking to hire, few companies these days are capable of hiring in three weeks. The likelihood of you getting a new job in 2025 is pretty low, why not take some time for yourself while you can? Here are some ideas that don't cost much: 🎄 Go for a walk and enjoy the Christmas lights and decorations in your neighborhood 📺 Watch Christmas movies and eat popcorn 🍿  📖 Go to the library and check out a Christmas-themed book 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Visit with family and friends you don't get to see very often   👵 Visit a nursing home to spread some holiday cheer 🎁 Volunteer to wrap presents for a parent with small children to help keep the spirit of San...

Happy Saturday 💚 Happiness is a new client reaching out to schedule another job 🤩 Job seekers, with as bad as the job market has been, I highly recommend figuring out what services you can offer to others and like Nike says, just do it. Sometimes you have to make things happen for yourself... #freelancer #FreelanceWork #FreelanceLife #JobHuntingChronicles #CatSitting #CatSitter

post #21 - Watch out for scammers

Image
Happy Friday 💚 I just finished scheduling my bill payments for December and honestly, it's a great feeling. I can enjoy my cat sitting jobs, look for additional freelance work, and of course, enjoy the holidays without having to stop to pay bills. It's definitely one of the benefits of technology. Speaking of looking for work and technology, there's been a lot of people posting about scammers targeting job seekers lately. I love that people want to warn others, but something keeps bugging me in these posts and I wanted to add my two cents. Almost every post that I've seen about scammers has included something like "the first red flag", and then goes on to detail other red flags that were in the message. If you see a red flag, STOP. Do not think "oh, maybe that's no so bad" and continue reading (or emailing the scammer). Just stop. One red flag is one too many. I get that candidates are getting desperate but please, use a little commo...
