Happy Tuesday 💚
I turned down a cat sitting job today. The reason I gave was it conflicted with another job, which is true. But I could have made room if I *really* wanted to.
Here's the thing: I didn't feel the need to accommodate this potential client. She had reached out to me on another social media platform about a month ago, asked me to message her (which I did), then gave me the dates she would be out of town and asked me to text her my availability to talk (which I also did). When times weren't lining up for us to talk, she finally just asked for my fees and what was included in my sitting services. So I texted her the information she requested and pretty quickly got a "thanks for the info" text (which I know is code for I'm not paying that for someone to feed my cat", or some variation of that). I told her she was welcome and I hoped to hear from her. Of course I never did 🙄
Fast forward to today and I get a text asking me if I'm available for later this month. No "I'm sorry I didn't let you know I found a cat sitter for the other dates", or "I initially thought your fees were too high", or even a "Hi Susan". Absolutely zero mention that she ghosted me a month ago on another job 🤔
Look, I get some people have an idea in their heads what they think they should pay a cat sitter but I don't justify my rates, and given that every client (except for one, she was a one time client) has actually tipped me (my invoices have absolutely no request for a tip), I feel my fees are fair and in line with what people are willing to pay. If you think my fees are too high, that's fine don't book with me, but at least be courteous and tell me. Ghosting is just rude. Especially if you may need me in the future.
Client relationships are just that, relationships. To me, they are 50/50. But if you've shown me that I'm below you or your time is more valuable than mine, you've lost me 🙅🏼♀️
I'm not THAT desperate...
