post #48 - treat others how you'd like to be treated

#MerryMonday 📰

Against my better judgment, last week I accepted an interview for 9:00 this morning 🕘

I say against my better judgment because on Wednesday, I'm going out of town ✈️ for basically the rest of the month, and while it is for a freelance job (cat 🐈‍⬛ sitting), I'm not planning on doing much networking 📲 while I'm away. Yes, I will be checking my emails 📧 but I'm not going to be in full job search mode. I'm not going to be on LinkedIn much and I'm not going to be applying to jobs during this time. I'm using this out of town job as a bit of a break from the job search.

So I was hesitant to take an interview 📅 this morning knowing that I wasn't going to be available much for the rest of the month. Of course, I was going to mention this in the interview so the recruiter didn't think I was ghosting 👻 her afterwards, and of course, if the interview went so well I was fast-tracked ⏱️ to another one, I would be more inclined to be available for a virtual 💻 interview, but my intention is to take some downtime 🛀 while I can and I was going to be clear about that.

Well, the joke's 🤡 me because the recruiter never showed up (thankfully it was a virtual interview). Maybe something came up. Maybe they forgot. Maybe the position has been filled. Maybe they were fired. Whatever it was, going silent 😶 at this point is not only unprofessional, it's inconsiderate 😠

Recruiters, hiring managers and other interviewers, please remember that you're dealing with a real person. If you wouldn't like it done to you, don't do it to a candidate. It's called "Human" Resources for a reason...
