If job interviews were honest:

Employer: Do you have a problem with overtime?

Me: Not if I get paid for it 🤣

Now obviously, I didn't say that but I can tell you, this question is concerning to me. Usually this kind of stuff doesn't come out in a first interview (unless the candidate asks about it, which is generally considered a no-no), so the fact that the employer asked this makes me think there's a lot of overtime (unpaid, of course since it's a salaried position).

While I stayed engaged for the rest of the interview (and answered the question professionally but also honestly), my gut tells me that this is not a place that I'd be happy at. Time will tell if I make it to round two but I'm definitely not counting on it (and I'm totally fine with that).

Candidate: (confused) The recruiter said it was a hybrid position with a need to be on-site only 1 day a month for the management meeting.
