I had a busy weekend with cat sitting but I absolutely loved it 😻

I'm still in the middle of one of the jobs so I'm going to work on that bill 💻 today. The other jobs were booked through one of the two apps📱 I'm background checked on so I don't have to bill those. I already received one payment (plus a tip 💵) and am expecting the other payment soon.

Job seekers, it's not only a new day, it's a new week and a new month 🗓 - anything can happen. Do one thing that will help you get closer to landing the job you're looking for: send that message, update your resume (ONLY if it needs it), apply to that job, like that LinkedIn post that resonated with you, post what you're looking for. Do something. And in the meantime, figure out what you're good at (bonus points if you love it) and do that as a freelancer. Cat sitting doesn't pay all my bills but I never know who I'll meet who may need my accounting (or other) services 💼

Happy Friday 🚙 I picked up my rental car today. This weekend I'm driving up to Northern California for a cat sitting job 🐈‍⬛. Do I usually travel 👝 for a cat sitting job? No. The one exception I make is for family and believe it or not, this is the first of two out of town cat sitting jobs for me (the second is in March, that one requires flying to another city, I'm looking at you, Dallas 🛩).  I've commented on many posts from job seekers telling them sometimes you have to look outside of traditional jobs to make money 💲, even if it's only temporary. This is an example of that. And I feel lucky that at this weird point in my career, I can visit with family and help them out while they're away from home. Have a great weekend! I'll probably be off LinkedIn for most of the next week to enjoy some downtime. Happy Thursday 💙 I took this picture on my walk to the park this morning. This park is farther away from my home than the one I usually walk through so I had a lot of time to think. The job market right now is brutal for job seekers like me. Companies and recruiters have the upper hand and they know it. And they're taking advantage of it. It's up to candidates to start pushing back. I've seen many posts from job seekers complaining about being ghosted. About not getting feedback. About being rushed to interview and then finding out that others had rescheduled theirs. About doing projects that took a lot of time and then have been told the role is on hold. About another round of interviews being added. The list goes on and on. And I get it, it's frustrating. I find myself commenting things like "until candidates stop doing free work, companies are going to continue to ask for it" and "you have the option of bowing out anytime you want". I don...

#MerryMonday 💙 I hope everyone (especially job seekers) took a little time off over the holidays to enjoy some downtime. Some people believe December was a great time to "get ahead" for job seekers, while others noted that "companies still hire in December", and while both those statements may be true for some, I am glad I stepped away from LinkedIn for a couple of weeks. Ok, I admit I posted three times (once to remind everyone that scammers don't take holidays (thank you, Christmas Eve hacker 😠), once to repost the year-end recap that I wrote on behalf of Surfcat, and finally last Saturday's quick "Happy Saturday/Happy New Year, let's hope 2026 is better for everyone who is looking for work" post), but I didn't look at notifications or my LI feed - I literally posted what I wanted to say and then logged off.
