The hardest part of freelancing (for me) is turning down a potential client. I work REALLY HARD to try to meet them half way but I've learned walking away is sometimes necessary:

➡️ Think my fees are too high? I wish you luck in finding someone who can do it as well as I can but for less money...

➡️ Can't decide what you actually need help with? Let me know when you figure it out...

➡️ Think you can do it better/faster than I can? Be my guest...

➡️ Your previous person only charged $x? Go back to them...

➡️ Expect me to be available whenever you want? Here's my on-call fee...

It's definitely been hard but I realized if I don't set boundaries, a potential client can start out with unreal expectations.

Happy Friday 🤍 For those wondering what the job search is like right now, this is a good example. A recruiter recently reached out to me about a position they're trying to fill for their client. We spoke a couple of times before an interview with the client was scheduled. In one of our conversations, I was asked if I had any travel plans coming up (which, now that I think about it, I probably shouldn't have answered). I was honest and mentioned a short trip in mid-May to Texas for a family reunion. This morning (the day of the interview), I received this email telling me my interview was canceled but if I could change my trip, the recruiter would "be happy to let my client know and see if we can get you scheduled again for an interview". It ended with, "Please let me know how you'd like to proceed". I don't even know how to respond to this. First of all, my trip is 4 weeks away. post #36 - will travel to cat sit

Happy Friday 🚙 I picked up my rental car today. This weekend I'm driving up to Northern California for a cat sitting job 🐈‍⬛. Do I usually travel 👝 for a cat sitting job? No. The one exception I make is for family and believe it or not, this is the first of two out of town cat sitting jobs for me (the second is in March, that one requires flying to another city, I'm looking at you, Dallas 🛩).  I've commented on many posts from job seekers telling them sometimes you have to look outside of traditional jobs to make money 💲, even if it's only temporary. This is an example of that. And I feel lucky that at this weird point in my career, I can visit with family and help them out while they're away from home. Have a great weekend! I'll probably be off LinkedIn for most of the next week to enjoy some downtime.
