I prefer quality over quantity...

Happy Thursday ๐Ÿ“ฐ

I was on the phone๐Ÿ“ฑwith someone last week (which is rare, I'm not a phone person, never have been) and she was telling me about her job search (misery loves company I guess ๐Ÿ˜‚) and how she had applied ๐Ÿ“‘ to almost 60 jobs in May and hadn't heard back from most of them. Of the few that she did hear back from, almost all were what she called "auto-rejections" ✖️

I let her vent because I know sometimes people need that but part of me wondered, did she apply thoughtfully to jobs she was actually qualified for? Or did she just apply to anything that she came across, thinking it's a numbers ๐Ÿ”ข game and hers has to come up eventually?

I'm asking because I feel like to some job seekers, it's become a badge๐ŸŽ–of honor to rattle off the number of jobs they've applied to without any real context. Do you get a prize๐Ÿ†for applying to the most jobs in a week/month/year? I recently saw a post where someone claimed to have applied to 7800 jobs in the last year. Seventy-eight hundred! That's a crazy high number and if I'm being honest, hard to believe ๐Ÿค”

Yes, it's tough right now. Believe me, I know. But when I hear that someone's applied to 60 jobs in a month, I wonder, were you actually qualified for all 60?

It's not my place to tell a fellow job seeker how to conduct their job search, but I personally would rather apply to only 2 jobs in a week, knowing I was qualified for both of them, than apply to 15 jobs in a week where the only reason I applied was because the job was part of the accounting department ๐Ÿงฎ

But that's just me...
